1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk Chopped Hot Rod

This 1958 Studebaker Silver Hawk was reportedly chopped in the late 60s for a famous person that passed away and never had the project completed. The car remained in bare metal since its chop, until around 2005 when my family acquired it. It was then sprayed in primer, as Florida is unkind to untreated metal, and 80s vintage wheels were added because the original whitewall tires were flat on the rims. It has been inside a warehouse since 2005 and has not seen any weather in the past 17 years. Sadly, my father-in-law passed this month, and his Estate and several collector cars, and other items will be offered at $1 to let the market determine the true value, so BID TO OWN IT. It will sell for the high bid.

In 1957 the Silver Hawk was introduced as a Pillared Coupe. In appearance, the Silver Hawk was different to the Golden Hawk, which was a pillarless hardtop. The Silver Hawk makes for a beautiful chop, as the pictures show, and this car was reportedly chopped in-period in Southern California for a music star. Apparently, the person who commissioned the car died, and the project sat unfinished in bare metal for decades. My family acquired it, but sadly, never got around to doing anything with it, and it is now being offered at to sell to the highest bidder.

A close look at the metalwork shows that exceptional skills were used. There is no bondo or filler under the primer, and all of the shapes flow smoothly and are perfectly fair. The pillars and window openings are also perfectly formed, and intact window tracks will accept stock glass once it is cut to shape.

The body shows no rust through, other than the minor streaks where primer did not fill the trim mounting holes. Although the chassis and suspension are intact, the floor was cut out in order to fabricate a lower flat floor. I had always imagined installing this body on an early 2000s Chrysler Magnum, as the wheelbase is nearly identical, and the modern powertrain would solve many fabrication issues.

The aluminum Buick 251 Aluminum V8 engine was removed from the car, and is not part of this auction.

I photoshopped some of the images to help prospective buyers imagine the car finished.
