You’re looking at the ultimate lead sled. This 1949 Mercury convertible is an impressive build that brings together a sleek style, fuel-injected V8 power, a luxury A/C interior, and so much more

It has been customized so much both inside and out that you’ll likely nickname it “Cherry Snowflake” – because you’re never going to see another one like it.

Take one look at the body. This Mercury has all the great traits of the legendary hot rods like the extended headlights, shaved door handles, fender skirts, a lowered suspension, and a chrome grille worth a 10,000-watt smile. Plus, great custom elements have been expertly integrated to make it look like they were there from day one. This includes the 1951-style rear with wraparound tail lights. And of course, the body was chopped about 3.5 inches to make sure it has the sleek profile this iconic street machine deserves. Sure, you can take down the top if any passenger feels claustrophobic, but the combination of the low-slung bright white roof and whitewall tires looks awesome. But our favorite custom element has to be the paint. The Firethorn Red Metallic was borrowed from some of the best cruising Cadillacs ever. And this application turns up the desirability because it was done by a professional painter for his own personal project. In fact, the application was done about 20 years ago. But when you have this kind of quality, and only 7,500 miles on the total build, this show-worthy shine will put to shame many customs that were just painted yesterday.

If you like the way the white top looks against the red paint, then you’ll love the interior. The ivory white of the interior is done with plush carpeting and supple leather to deliver a truly premium style. And the tuck and roll pattern for the upholstery reminds you of the classic inspiration for this later custom build. This is full of thoughtful details, right down to the lighting. That’s why you not only have door courtesy lights, but the under-dash lights have a cool touch of red. More than just stylish, this convertible is comfortable. It’s loaded with power windows, a power convertible top, an AM/FM/CD stereo, and cold R134a air conditioning. And the sports steering wheel, tilt column, and full AutoMeter gauge package let you know there’s something special under the hood.

The engine bay continues this car’s thoughtful style with extra smooth inner walls, tidy wires, and plenty of details hidden from plain sight. At the center is a modern 350 cubic-inch V8 with Ram Jet fuel injection. It makes for a strong heart that has the kind of consistency you’ll want for cruising. And speaking of an easy driving attitude, the upgrade to a 700R4 four-speed automatic transmission gives you highway-friendly overdrive. Plus, features like a tubular A-arm front end, power steering, power brakes, and front discs make it easy to get to car shows near or far. And wherever you arrive, the airbags on the rear suspension let you dial in your ideal stance.
