1939 Chevrolet custom 4-door sedan built approximately 13 years and 14900 miles ago
The all-steel body (except for the rear fenders), 3” chopped top 4” widened front fenders and custom 2-stage metallic pearl Amethyst paint were professionally done and are in very good condition. The front fenders were widened 4” to accommodate the late model Oldsmobile front-end frame clip, thus giving the Chevy a nice wide and low stance. There are many subtle custom additions you will also notice such as running board lights which are activated when the doors are open, retractable front license plate, sunken rear license plate area, sunken power antenna, and a filled cowl vent.
The interior uses the factory seats which have been reupholstered in a gray and purple tweed. The dash uses real walnut inserts with Classic Instrument gauges for a traditional look. Power items include the windows, 4-wheel disc brakes, and steering. Additionally, an Ididit tilt steering column and Billet Specialties matching steering wheel were added along with a Sony AM/FM radio which is mounted in the trunk with controls under the driver’s seat. The Vintage Air A/C, heat, and defrost controls are mounted along the side of the steering column.
Powering the Chevrolet is a modified 455 c.i. Oldsmobile engine which has been treated to a hydraulic cam, full length headers, Summit vacuum can, Offenhauser 360 intake manifold and Holley 850 double pumper carburetor. A thermostatically controlled electric fan with an oversized custom radiator keeps everything cool even on the hottest summer days. Handling the shifting is a Turbo 400 3-speed automatic.
The chassis is a stock ’39 Chevy frame which has been reinforced using a custom rear cross-member to help handle the welded in Oldsmobile Cutlass front clip. A 9” Ford (open) rear differential with 3.55:1 gears mounted on leaf springs puts the power to the road using 15” Billet Specialty wheels and 215/60R (front) & 295/50R (rear) Spirit Grand G/T radials.
There are some stone chips and small cracks in the paint but there does not appear to be any rust coming through on the body and all of the chrome & glass are in excellent condition. Electrically, the windows function normally as do the gauges, turn signals, exterior lights, courtesy lights, wipers, power antenna, and A/C.
